The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has allocated the following frequencies or channels to to ensure communications interoperability in emergency situation for police officers, firefighters and other first responders.

Public safety operates in 10 different bands, creating confusion characteristic for the public safety spectrum today. The entire public safety spectrum is widely distributed over ten discrete bands making it difficult for first responders to communicate. Transmission at higher frequencies has been added to as technology progressed, however the wider spectrum has come with steep price to pay - incompatible systems over different agencies and jurisdictions.
